City of Torrance Mayor Pat Furey under fire again for FRAUD

Patrick Furey Jr. has resigned from the Torrance Unified School District (TUSD)Personnel Commission. The news was confirmed via an e-mail by new Deputy Superintendent Dr. Tim Stowe who released an internal memo on the subject.
Furey Jr.’s position on the Commission had come under fire due to his role in a political scandal involving illegal campaign contributions to his father’s 2014 mayoral campaign that led to a $35,000 fine by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). Furey Jr. served as his father’s campaign manager during that election campaign.
The incident resulted in Furey Jr. stepping down earlier this year from his role on the City’s Traffic Commission just prior to when the Council was to hold a vote on whether to oust him. In his resignation letter, he said that “these sad political attacks on the Mayor and my family are embarrassing our City.”  He also lamented that:
“Now the most extreme elements of our City – people who literally do nothing but complain, make vicious public attacks about people they don’t even know, and write racist and homophobic blogs – call all the shots. Now they can move on to just attacking my father and leave my family out of it.”
Furey Jr. was initially appointed to the Personnel Commission in December 2012. His father had previously served in the same role from 2006 to 2008. Furey Jr. was re-appointed to the position in December 2015 and his current term does not expire until December 2018.
The Commission was established to ensure favoritism and nepotism are kept out of the District’s hiring practices and that employees are hired based only upon demonstrated ability and not on who they know. Furey Jr. was appointed to the Commission by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter #845.  His mother, Teresa Furey, is still currently listed on CSEA’s website as its First Vice President.
CSEA has 15 days from the day the position became vacant to publicly submit a new name to fulfill the remainder of Furey Jr.’s term.

McCormick Contract Extended; Late Contributions to Dagastino’s Campaign Disclosed

Last Tuesday, the Council voted by a 6 to 1 margin to extend the McCormick emergency transportation and billing services contract for another year. McCormick received a ringing endorsement from Fire Chief Serna as data provided by the City showed they had met or exceeded contract expectations, including the critical response time requirement of 92% as reflected in the table below.
Councilman Milton Herring, the lone nay vote, expressed concerns about McCormick’s involvement in past campaign finance violations and said he wanted the City to undertake the Request for Proposal (RFP) process so they could evaluate other potential bidders.
Councilmembers Griffiths and Ashcraft joined Herring in expressing reservations about the contract, but ultimately approved the extension indicating their belief that there was insufficient time at this point to complete the RFP process. They also noted that they had recently voted to release a solicitation seeking other vendors for the service, but that such motion brought forward last April was not approved by their colleagues on the Council.
During her comments, Councilwoman Ashcraft stated:
“I have consistently voted against the City’s contract with McCormick Ambulance because of what I have perceived as a “pay to play” situation involving them during the election campaign of 2014 that got them the contract … It’s regrettable to me that McCormick thought they had to pay to play in order to get the contract, because I believe they would have gotten it other than that.”
Resident Linda Gottshall-Sayed, who previously served on the Ethics Commission with Mayor Furey, forcefully reminded the Council during the meeting that McCormick and the Mayor had broken the law and also urged the Council to seek additional vendors for the service in the future.
Prior to the vote, Mayor Furey acknowledged an e-mail received from former Councilwoman Maureen O’ Donnell wherein she wrote to the mayor, “Because of circumstances well known to you, please be honorable and recuse yourself from voting on the McCormick contract.”

With regard to the issue, Mayor Furey solicited advice from City Attorney John Fellows who responded by saying:
“There is no legal requirement for recusal here. To the extent that the request for recusal hinges upon campaign contributions generally speaking those are not considered an economic benefit to an elected official.”
Fellows made no comment on the unusual arrangement in which McCormick paid Mayor Furey’s FPPC fine and whether that relationship arose to a conflict of interest requiring recusal. Fellows has also thus far declined to pursue any action against the Mayor for violations of municipal law revealed in the Fair Political Practices (FPPC) investigation.
Perhaps due to all the hoopla surrounding their involvement in the 2014 election, McCormick was much less visible in the recent 2016 election. Required post election disclosures did reveal, however, three $1,000 contributions made to the campaign of Leilani Kimmel-D'Agostino from representatives of McCormick. These contributions were made in late June 2016 after the election had already concluded. D'Agostino was endorsed by Mayor Furey and the public employee unions, but ended up losing despite outspending all of the other candidates.
The post election financial disclosure also revealed another $14,846 payment to RFC Communications bringing the total paid to that firm to nearly $50,000. RFC appears to be the latest incarnation of Patrick Furey Jr’s political consulting firm due to it sharing a phone number, address, and client list with Furey Jr’s prior firm Liberty Campaign Solutions. Dagastino had hired Furey Jr. to work as her campaign manager, but tried to distance herself from him during the campaign by saying she only hired him to design some print material.
Furey Jr. resigned from his post on the Traffic Commission earlier this year after public outcry due to his role in the events that led to McCormick and Furey being fined $35,000 by the FPPC. In his resignation letter, he blamed extreme elements of the City he referred to as racists. In similar fashion, D'Agostino attributed her campaign loss to racism as well as a “hate campaign” that was waged against her.
Furey Jr. still serves the City and its schoolchildren through his role on the Torrance Unified School District’s Personnel Commission. That Commission is designed to ensure favoritism and nepotism are kept out of the District’s hiring practices and that employees are hired based only upon demonstrated ability and not on who they know. Furey Jr. was appointed to the Commission by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter #845.  His mother, Teresa Furey, is still currently listed on CSEA’s website as its First Vice President.

Torrance City Council Candidate Leilani Kimmel D'Agostino is a FRAUD

I AM JUST SHARING LINKS TO REVEAL THE TRUTH.
Leilani Kimmel D'Agostino is a FRAUD. This is my opinion of her. Besides the fact that Torrance City Council candidate Leilani Kimmel D'Agostino likes to talk bad about me and many others to people in Torrance. She is also lying to the public.
Since when is speaking the truth something we should fear?
Personally I don't care who Leilani uses for her campaign. I do however question the fact she denied using Jr. as her consultant.
That is why I decided to share this "PUBLIC INFORMATION" with anyone that may have missed it.
I'm tired of the "Don't step on Political Toes" thing.
Seems like this is information the public needs to know. She may still win, and I may make more enemies at city hall, but something no one could ever say is that I don't have the BALLS to speak up.
As you know Torrance City Council Candidate Leilani D'Agostino is using Patrick Furey Jr. as her consultant. Amid the controversy with the Furey family, Leilani has been getting a lot of pressure from supporters about her relationship with Jr. and many advised her to drop him.
Funny thing is that she is now stating that she is no longer using Jr. but interestingly enough the company name changed according to her most recent 460 filing, but both the address and phone number of this "New" consultant is still the same as Liberty Campaign Solutions.
Feel free to compare for yourself.
http://www.torranceca.gov/20148.htm
New company http://rfccommunications.com/contact-us/ Presumably owned by Patrick Furey Jr.
Old Company http://www.yellowpages.com/torrance-ca/mip/liberty-campaign-solutions-llc-475556929 Also presumably owned by Patrick Furey Jr.
Do what you want with the info, after all it's public record.
Again, I don't care who she uses as her campaign manager, but if she has to lie about this, what else will she lie about in the future?
SHARE with your Torrance Voters if you think this is information they should know.

NO VOTE FOR LEILANI.

Aurelio Mattucci Shares Thoughts on Education & More at South High School

Meet Torrance City Council candidate, Aurelio Mattucci this Wednesday, April 2nd at South High School. The open forum event will take place in the South High School cafeteria at 4801 Pacific Coast Highway, starting at 7:00 pm.

Come out to this event to learn more about Mattucci’s platform, which centers around four basic issues. These are concerns that all cities face but are too often neglected.  As the next member of the Torrance City Council Mattucci will focus his energy on:
  • Public Safety
  • Education
  • Budget
  • Curb Appeal

Mattucci believes in a hands-on approach to all of these issues that includes community involvement and volunteerism. The neighborhoods and schools belong to the residents of Torrance and we are all responsible for making them the safest, most beautiful and most efficient they can be. The more that residents support public safety, police and fire departments, form neighborhood watch programs and pick up a paint brush to improve school facilities, the more the whole city can thrive. Everyone wants to feel safe and we can all contribute.

Aurelio Mattucci will also work toward responsible budgeting that plans for today and tomorrow.  “I want to make sure our City takes a conservative approach to spending and prioritizes expenditures by necessity not popularity.”  At the same time, Mattucci still wants that all important community involvement with allocating funds for education and other necessary services that any city oversees. “The tax payers should be in control of where the funds go on all levels,” says Mattucci.

As a real estate broker, Aurelio Mattucci also understands the very real importance of curb appeal. It’s that element of delight when pulling up to a location that is inviting and exciting. Curb appeal makes a prospective home or business owner want to take a closer look and to make the crucial decision of whether or not to call a place home. Drawing new residents and businesses to Torrance is an all important factor in the future growth and prosperity of the city as a whole. But if buildings are abandoned, sidewalks are cracked and cluttered with weeds and streets are deteriorating, that inviting and exciting feeling will never flourish. Mattucci will work toward planting trees, removing concrete and beautifying the City of Torrance with the help and support of its residents.  This is your home and when you come home, it should feel like home.

Show your support for public safety, education, budget control and curb appeal when you meet City Council Candidate Aurelio Mattucci at any of these upcoming events.

I have a question.  Why would it be a good thing to have Mayor Frank Scotto endorse and promote four candidates?  I personally have not asked nor do I want the endorsement of any politician as to not owe any favors to anyone.  Mayor Frank Scotto has been putting a lot of effort in promoting his dream team and you can't help but wonder, WHY?
I am truly an Independent candidate that the only people he is indebted to is the voters of Torrance.  If you feel Torrance needs a fresh start, then I am your man.  If you feel you need a representative and not another political offspring, then I am your man.
Come June 3rd, you have the power to clean up city hall and elect individuals that will represent your best interest.
Vote Aurelio Mattucci, a true independent.

16 Candidates join Torrance City Council Race 2014

Amazing.  16 candidates have joined the race for Torrance City Council in the June 3rd election.  Candidate Aurelio Mattucci was one of the first to file their 501 form which gives public notice or intentions of running for office.  The race started early for some and some are barely starting.  Either way it will be a competitive race and as far as Mayoral candidates we have three,  Tom Brewer, Pat Furey and Bill Sutherland.  All of them currently serving as City Councilmembers.  Two of them are termed out (Sutherland and Brewer ).

Aurelio Mattucci Candidate for Torrance City Council.

Mission

Public safety and economic stability is among my priorities. I want the city to be fiscally responsible and do what it can to cut wasteful spending. I do believe in energy conservation and helping both home owners and businesses save money on utilities without imposing additional restrictions on them. I do believe we need to plant more trees in our residential neighborhoods and make our commercial areas more desirable to new business growth. We need to fill up our commercial vacancies by offering new businesses true incentives and help out our many existing and loyal small businesses succeed and not just survive. We need to be a truly business friendly city and not just say we are. We also need to streamline permits and plan check process to encourage new business. I do hope I can get your support and the support of your friends and family. I also want to help maintain and promote family unity and the safety of all the families that live in this wonderful city.

Description

I am a candidate for Torrance City Council. Running for office has been a long time dream of mine. I have never been more motivated in achieving this endeavor. I feel that in order to truly make positive changes in our city one must make them as a whole, work together and get involved at all levels. These are challenging times for us, as a country and as a city, with the redevelopment funds gone, we are facing the same fate as many other municipalities , loss of businesses that directly translate to less revenue for our city, loss of local jobs and more of our families living with financial instability and the risk of losing their homes. Less revenue for the city means the potential loss of many programs, services and activities that have helped shape Torrance throughout the years. It's not a matter of Right or Left, it's a matter of Right or Wrong. I will do what is Right for the people of Torrance. I will listen to your concerns and suggestions. I will be truly a public servant, serving the people of Torrance and the many businesses that help support and maintain this wonderful city that I am proud to say is my home.
