A dozen candidates are lined up for a chance at appointment to the Torrance City Council.  This action will be decided at Torrance City Hall on December 17th 2013 by the City Council. Person appointment will be taking over the seat of Cliff Numark.  Councilman Numark stepped down after winning his election for El Camino Trustee Board.

Many are running for the 4 seats coming up in June 2014. The city of Torrance expects as many as 20 people running for 4 seats on City Council. We are also voting for a new Mayor which is pretty important considering the Mayor often sets the pace for advancement. Mayor Frank Scotto is termed out and unable to run.  He may however seek other seats in the County. All speculation since he has not made a formal announcement of his future plans.  I have much respect for Mayor Frank Scotto as he has helped keep Torrance beautiful over the years.
Many candidates are lined up for a chance at City Council and currently 3 contenders for the Mayoral seat. Let's see what happens. A little over 6 months to go and I am feeling good about my campaign. Stronger than ever I will continue doing what I am doing, which is meet as many people face to face as I can possibly do.
Torrance is a big city with a little under 21 square miles of territory and about 150,000 residents. Not to mention the over 12,000 businesses that made Torrance their home.

Since campaigning started, Torrance City Council candidate Aurelio Mattucci visited over 1,200 local Torrance Business Owners and has made it clear that the city will become a working partner in the lives of these hard working families and that the permitting and licensing process shall be streamlined. Aurelio Mattucci added that small businesses are the heart beat of the city and we can't stop the heart from beating or the city will die. Parking in the Old Torrance area of the city is also something that Old Torrance business owners are all talking about. A good solution is building parking lots along Cabrillo that would serve as dedicated tenant and employee parking lots for the hundreds of employees working the downtown area. We must leave the parking along Sartori open to customers and not expect them to walk a couple blocks to get to their vehicles.  As a city, we need to listen to the people and not make decisions on personal judgment or opinion.  Ask the people, and you shall find the answer.

On November 25th, 2013 we had our State of the Region at the Double Tree Hotel in Torrance CA. This is an event put together by the local Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and it normally attracts a couple hundred people but this year we were closer to 300 guests not counting the people that attended the pre-party sponsored in part by the committee to elect Aurelio Mattucci for City Council 2014.
This was a great event to be able to introduce myself to many local businesses and residents along with being able to talk to some local politicians.

Constructive Criticism vs. Vicious Nagging
There is a huge difference between the two.
Yesterday I was approached by an individual that basically attacked me on my methods of how I am running my campaign.
The complaint was that I had just too much presence on social media and that I should concentrate more on getting to know how to run the city.
I mention constructive criticism and vicious nagging because I feel some people just like to complain or nag and offer very little support when it comes to someone else's dream or vision.
I initially took this person's comments as Constructive Criticism but later changed it to Vicious Nagging because I felt there was no positive impact on the comments made.
Here's the deal, if you approach someone with a complaint or criticism... follow it up with a reason or theory behind your comments or just keep it to yourselves.
Social media is a huge part of most people running for office, but I do realize it's only one piece of the puzzle and not the whole campaign. As for Vicious Nagging, I call it vicious because it's done without good intention and nagging because that is what it sounds like when it's being communicated. In my campaigning I have incorporated social media as a mean of communicating with the public. I do feel politicians are very often disconnected with the public and rely solely on name recognition to win elections. So, as far as learning the process of running a city I told this individual that learning how to run a city is an every day process and one must never stop learning. When you are elected and sit on the seat you ran for, only at that time will you truly start the learning process. Before this time you are only learning in theory. Through social media I have connected with the people of Torrance on a personal level. I am one with the citizens and this is where I want to be. I invite constructive criticism as it can only help me in my endeavors. Nagging? No thank you. I live, work and love the city of Torrance and that is my platform.

CHARLOTTE SVOLOS joins the race for Torrance City Council. Aurelio Mattucci is among the many candidates fighting over 4 seats. It will be interesting to see what happens with Cliff Numark's seat that he just vacated. Rumors say that the seat already has Heidi Ashcraft written all over it. I'd say leave it open and let the people of Torrance decide. Mayor Scotto is termed out but let's see what the future holds.

Who will be the winning candidates for Torrance?
This is a very tough question considering there are currently three Mayoral candidates, Pat Furey, Bill Sutherland, and Tom Brewer of which all of them are currently city councilmen and have contributed to our community. Of course being Mayor is not a shared seat and this is going to be a close race. As far as City Council..... We have a lot of candidates, 4 seats and a lot of political favors owed. I just hope the people of Torrance can see through the political fog and vote for the candidates that they personally support and not candidates we are told to support. I personally believe in our Democracy and may the best candidates win. After all I am also a resident and business owner here in the same city where you live and possibly work.
